Diversity in organisations, is the co-existence of employees from various socio-cultural backgrounds, working together to achieve a common goal (Prasad, 2012). Diversity refers to the physical and cultural differences between employees of the organisation. Diversity tends to take two forms: the diversity present in groups, communities, and nations, and the diversity acquired through individual’s personal experiences (Galinsky et al., 2015). Employees from different countries and backgrounds contribute to varied cultural norms, beliefs, customs, and values. While diversity as far as the physical differences are concerned, pertain to the differences in age and sex. Over the years, researchers have found that a well-developed and a well-maintained diverse organisation is a good business practice and offers considerable benefits to the organisation. With the globalisation of businesses, the need to have managers and salespeople who can understand overseas customers is on the rise.
